Shams centers
Combating gender-based violence means the forms of violence that women may be exposed to as they are vulnerable in several local communities, which exposes them to many forms of economic, social, physical, verbal, or psychological violence and other types of violence that take multiple forms. The project provides awareness sessions. Social psychology for women about the concept of gender-based violence, its effects, causes, ways to avoid it, and treatment if it occurs. These sessions are periodic and help raise the level of awareness and manage risks.
During 2023, within the protection program, EPDC opened three safe spaces for women and girls under the name of the Shams Center in Aleppo (Sulaymaniyah Centre) – Aleppo countryside (Hamimah Al-Kubra) – Idlib countryside (Khan Shaykhun), and a mobile point in Damascus countryside ( Al-Hajar Al-Aswad) and in the Damascus countryside (Irbin) since 2019.
These spaces provide awareness services about gender-based violence, medical and psychological case management services, psychological and social support sessions for girls and women, work to empower women through vocational courses and provide them with vocational classes that help them start a business of their own, and what this work benefits the family. And the community, these spaces also provide a variety of community services.
