Restoration work of Krak des Chevaliers

His Eminence, bishop Mor Boutros Kassis, inspects the restoration work of Krak des Chevaliers and the signing of the appendix to the Memorandum of Understanding.
On the morning of Wednesday 17/5/2023, His Eminence, Bishop Mor Boutros Kassis, the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Aleppo and its dependencies, and the General Manager of St. Ephrem Patriarchal Development Committee EPDC, visited Krak des Chevaliers, where an appendix to the memorandum of understanding regarding the restoration work of the castle was signed between EPDC represented by His Eminence Bishop and the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, represented by its director, Dr. Nazir Awad.
His Eminence, Bishop was accompanied by Mr. Roy Mousalli, Executive Director of EPDC, and the administrative team. The signing took place in the presence of Dr. Rakan Razzouk, President of the Syrian Private University of Antioch, the scientific arm of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East. The signing was also attended by a high-ranking Hungarian delegation representing the donor, where the parties emphasized the importance of this unique partnership and the great contributions achieved through it in preserving and preserving cultural heritage, especially since the site of Krak des Chevaliers is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
This signature was followed by an inspection visit to the work sites that were targeted during the past two years, represented by the restoration and furnishing of the church/mosque building with its unique murals, as well as the Ottoman residence, and the southern front of the fort represented by the tower of King al-Zahir Baybars and the southern stables. The attendees also learned about the works that will be targeted through the appendix to the memorandum that was signed today, represented in strengthening and restoring the northern wall of the southern stables.
It is worth noting that all of these works are being implemented through St. Ephrem Patriarchal Development Committee (EPDC) following the most accurate and highest standards applied by the International Organization for Science, Culture, and Education (UNESCO) and its advisory organization (ICOMOS).
